Jon Manning

ADVISOR & FRACTIONAL HEAD OF PRICING

In 2023, Jon was named by 7Learnings as one of 99 Pricing thought leaders to follow on LinkedIn. Internationally recognised and experienced, Jon has over three decades of Pricing experience in a wide variety of industries, in both Australia and overseas.

Jon’s career has been a journey through many Pricing methodologies: the cryptic world of oil industry Pricing, cost-plus Pricing in catering & consumer packaged goods, revenue/yield management in aviation, travel & tourism, and dynamic Pricing in internet cafes on the High Streets of the UK, the EU and the USA.

Today, Jon primarily develops value-based Pricing and monetisation strategies for companies that recognise that it’s not what he knows about Pricing in their industry that counts: it’s what he knows about Pricing in so many other industries that helps make his work with them more profitable.

Jon recognises that your products and services are not the same as your competitors. And neither are your costs, your channels to market or your customers. So why should your prices be the same as your competitors? He treats all clients’ Pricing challenges as unique, while also applying rigorous, proven and innovative processes and frameworks where necessary. Jon’s passion for optimal Pricing strategies ensures that, on average, he achieves at least a 20.9% revenue uplift for companies he works with.

Not only has Jon been General Manager or Head of Pricing at a number of Australian blue-chip digital companies, he is also a start-up mentor, a micro & behavioural economist and the author of “Overcoming Floccinaucinihilipilification: Valuing and Monetizing Products and Services“, the most ridiculously titled Pricing book that guides start-ups, entrepreneurs and side hustlers through value-based Pricing.

Jon has spoken at over ninety conferences, workshops and educational institutions across the Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and the UK. Between 2007 and 2009, he co-presented the “Pricing Strategy & Revenue Management” Executive Education Programme at Lancaster University Management School.

Jon holds a Bachelor of Business (Applied Economics) from Deakin University (Australia), a Graduate Diploma of Business (Management) from Monash University (Australia) and a Master of Arts (European Studies) from the University of West London. His articles have been published in “The Journal of Professional Pricing”, “The Journal of Revenue and Pricing Management”, “The Pricing Advisor”, and “The Wiglaf Journal”.

OUR STORY

From pioneering crowdsourced Pricing to leading strategic advisory, PricingProphets has always been ahead of the curve.

Launched in 2011, PricingProphets began as the world’s first crowdsourcing platform for pricing. Companies from around the world used the platform to get expert input on what to charge, and why, for everything from services and SaaS products to consumer goods.

Recognised by customers and the media alike, PricingProphets earned a spot in Anthill’s Smart100 awards in 2012 and continued to evolve. The original platform later shifted to pre-paid calls with a panel of global Pricing experts, before pivoting to the consultancy model we operate today.

The name PricingProphets was inspired by a chance encounter with a road case labelled “Community Prophets” at Melbourne Airport, a timely spark for a business built on insight and foresight.

Our logo reflects a key belief: prices aren’t set by the mythical “invisible hand of the market.” They’re set by people, strategic, experienced and data-driven. And that’s exactly who we are.
